During the Nashville conference, yourBoard of Directors created a SteeringCommittee to oversee the Strategic Directions set in motion after CUMREC'95 in Traverse City. The members of thiscommittee include board membersDennis Calbos, Marianne Elser, BillNorwood, Bill Graves, and FredGoebeler of the CUMREC InternationalOffice (10).We are directly charged tostrengthen the IO office, monitor theWorld Wide Web site, and create aninstitutional membership program.Toward this end you have alreadyseen a major enhancement toCUMREC's Web site and its new, easierto remember address:http://www.cumrec.com

You will continue to see the Web siteoffer more value to both our conference attendees and our supporting vendors. We believe a strong Web presenceshows our strengths and the information we provide can become a greatresource as schools look for similarsample projects from their peers and vendors with relevant tools and expertise. It is this same value we intend to putinto an institutional membership program. We believe we have developed a packageof available resources and discounts tomember attendees which will attract alllevels of institutional interest and allowCUMREC to remain a conference open toeveryone -- member or not. Institutionalmemberships will also provide an additionalfunding source to keep the CUMREC conference a bargain and provide the opportunity to increase awareness of CUMRECand its benefits.

Overseeing these activities requires asubstantial time commitment on the partof CUMREC's I0. As a result, part of thiscommittee's role will be working with theIO to guide and help them accomplishthese goals and assist them in taking a largerrole in supporting the host institution'spresentation of the annual conference. Insummary, our goals are: to help CUMRECcontinue to attract new attendees; to attract institutional memberships; to providemore assistance to the host schools;and,to add more value for pre- and postconference participants via email, theWeb, and personal networking opportunities. In Nashville, your Board held a session describing much of the effort thathas already gone into keeping CUMRECa powerful support mechanism. Manysuggestions were given by the attendees. I would like to offer again the opportunity to contact me with anythoughts, suggestions, or opportunitieswe should not miss.

Many thanks for your support. Welook forward to telling you even morein St. Louis!
