WorkPlaceUSA Volunteer To Counsel
Young Adults On Adoption Process



On Tuesday, October 8, Kimberly Surratt, a Senior Designer with WorkPlaceUSA will lead a group of young adultson a private tour of the Gladney Center for Adoption’s new corporate campus as part of her ongoing volunteer work with the Gladney Center for Adoption. The group – composed of young adults adoptedthrough the Gladney Center – will learn more about the adoption process while exchanging thoughts and other information with peers who have undergone similarexperiences. The goal of the tour is to educate and provide a support network for adopted children who are reaching anage of understanding regarding the adoption process.

Mrs. Surratt is a member of the Dallas Auxiliary, a volunteer support group that works to promote awareness of theGladney Center for Adoption in Dallas County and its surrounding communities. In conjunction with their counterparts in Tarrant County, these volunteers help raise funds and work withprospective families who are seeking to adopt children through the Gladney Center. They also conduct a series of high school outreach programs designed toadvise and educate teenagers facing unwanted pregnancies on the adoption services and alternatives to abortion offered by the Gladney Center.

2002 National Book Festival




WorkPlaceUSA was a charter sponsor of the 2001 National Book Festival and will again serve as a primary sponsor of the 2002 National Book Festival.

For the second consecutive year, WorkPlaceUSA is will serve as a charter sponsor of the 2002 National Book Festival. Spearheaded by First Lady Laura Bush and the Library of Congress, the festival will take place on Saturday, October 12 in Washington, D.C. on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall. As with the 2001 National Book Festival, it will be open to the public free of charge. The purpose of the festival is to promote both children's and adult literacy through the joy of reading while encouraging support of public libraries nationwide.

More than 70 authors, illustrators and storytellers will be present at the 2002 National Book Festival. Events will include authors reading from and discussing their works, performances by storytellers, a book conservation clinic, musical performances detailing America's musical traditions and information on the many services offered by the Library of Congress. Attendees will also be able to purchase books and have them signed by nationally recognized and world reknowned authors. Proceeds from raised from book sales and other special events will benefit public libraries.

WorkPlaceUSA's support of the National Book Festival is the brainchild of Co-Owner and Vice-Chairwoman Teresa Amend. A lifelong resident of Dallas, Mrs. Amend shares the First Lady's love of the written word is dedicated to helping promote the cause of literacy. Mrs. Amend remains dedicated to giving back to the community, and under her guidance, WorkPlaceUSA has actively supported numerous social causes in the past, including the Texas Book Festival, Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure, Gladney Center for Adoption and Habitat for Humanity among others.

Visit Russia



WorkPlaceUSA Vice Chairman Teresa Amend and Librarian of Congress Dr. James Billington review Russian literature during a recent trip to Russia as part of the James Madison Council.

As part of the company’s ongoing effort to promote First Lady Laura Bush’s passion for reading and support of public libraries, WorkPlaceUSA Vice-Chairman Teresa Amend and President/CEO John T. Amend recently joined a delegation to Russia as part of the James Madison Council. The James Madison Council is a private-sector group comprised of distinguished business, cultural and philanthropic leaders, whose goal is to assist the Library of Congress in fostering initiatives through various programs that utilize and distribute its vast resources and collections. As charter sponsors of the inaugural National Book Festival held in Washington D.C. in September 2001, the Amends joined the Council in 2001. (more)



WorkPlaceUSA Gives Back To The Community



In support of Dallas Children's Charities, WorkPlaceUSA was proud to help sponsor the Texas premier of the feature film The Bourne Identity, starring Matt Damon (L) and directed by Frank Marshall (R).

As part of an effort to sponsor organizations that support underprivileged residents of Dallas, WorkPlaceUSA employees recently attended the Texas feature film premiere of The Bourne Identity. The event benefited the Dallas Children’s Charities and The Wilkinson Center, two Dallas-based non-profit organizations dedicated to helping needy families. The film’s star, actor Matt Damon and director Frank Marshall highlighted the event, which took place Friday, June 7 at the Angelika Film Center & Caf in Dallas’ Mockingbird Station.(more)

About The Dallas Children’s Charities

Comprised of The Margarita Society and Love for Kids, the Dallas Children’s Charities are dedicated to providing gifts for needy children throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area at Christmas time. This includes an annual Christmas party for 4,000 underprivileged children aged 6-12. They also provide year-round resources and support to community organizations that work with needy children.

About The Wilkinson Center
The Wilkinson Center is a Dallas-based non-profit organization that works with people in need who desire to create a better life. By providing a hand up they help people in need reach their given potential and sustain themselves with dignity. The Center helps 16,000 people a year through various programs. Its food pantry provides 200,000 pounds of food each year to families in crisis.

Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas - John Amend, President/CEO and David Amend, Vice President of WorkPlaceUSA, a Dallas-based provider of integrated workplace solutions, were recently awarded the 2001 "Friends of Adoption" Award by the Fort Worth-based Gladney Center For Adoption, a nationally recognized provider of adoption services. They were honored for the comprehensive pro bono design/build assistance their firm is providing during construction of the Center's new headquarters. Both men were formally recognized on Monday, November 5 in a ceremony at the prestigious Fort Worth Club located in downtown Fort Worth. (more)



WorkPlaceUSA Volunteers Join Week-Long Community Service Project Benefiting Habitat For Humanity



WorkPlaceUSA employees (Left-Right) Maria Whatley, Rhonda Guerry, Oscar Umanzor (Habitat homeowner), John T. Amend, Charmaine Moran, Jennifer Hatton and David Gordon volunteered their time in to help build a new home for the Umanzor family.

Dallas, Texas – Nearlytwo dozen WorkPlaceUSA employees participated in the Dallas Area Habitat forHumanity’s Greenleaf Village Blitz Build. A joint venture between the DallasArea Habitat For Humanity, Dallas Housing Authority and local sponsors, thegoal of the weeklong Blitz Build was to build the first 25 homes of GreenleafVillage, a 310-home, mixed-income neighborhood in West Dallas. When completed, the Village will provideaffordable housing and serve as a model for similar communities throughout theUnited States. Other WorkPlaceUSA employees also helped raise donations insupport of the Dallas Area Habitat For Humanity.(more)
